KIT BASHED LAND RAIDER ARES

AFTER SEEING THIS ON THE GW WEBSITE I HAD TO MAKE ONE.

The Land Raider Ares was created by the Dark Angels Chapter for use by the Deathwing. It features hull-mounted, twin-linked assault cannons, one prow-mounted Demolisher cannon and sponson twin-linked heavy flamers.

USED A LAND RAIDER KIT, THE NEW VINDICATOR SPRUE , FLAMERS FROM THE BANEBLADE AND BITS ORDERED THE METAL ASSAULT CANNONS FROM THE LAND RAIDER CRUSADER.

AND PAINTED

And some fancy outside pics.

Update: This has been one of my more popular posts, so I decided to revisit it, and add some comments for those that are looking to build one of these.

Buy a new Crusader kit , it comes with the Assault cannons, the flamers from the Baneblade should be easy to find as bits, they are not often used.

Buy a Vindicator, you get the gun and dozer blade and the front mantlet parts, and you will still have a rhino and extra armor left over after stealing all the parts for this conversion. I actually bought the 3 pack of chaos Vindis, it comes with all the Chaos bits and the command vehicle sprue as well and its the same price.

I decided not to widen the dozer blade, it seemed like more work that it was worth.

Make sure you mount your flamer sposons on the forward hatches as I did , you will get a bit more range from them.

Now go out and build one, and purge the Heretic.

  2. Anon: There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding units used in conjunction with Deathwing Terminators.

Some suggest, as yourself, that all units used in a Deathwing force should have bone-colored armor like the Terminators.

While others believe that the Landraiders and Dreadnoughts are pulled from the standard Dark Angel's armoury and therefore would still be DA Green.

Frankly I agree that one should paint them how they want. I just so happen to be including a Vindicator with my force (because I'd forgotten about the Ares) and have basecoated it to be bleached bone in color.

Now were is that unbuilt Crusader box I had and the spare Vindicator sprue, I've got some work to do...

  4. I think that only things that termies ride in should be Bone White, dedicated transport, even Deathwing crusaders are crewed by techs that dont wear the bone armor and drop pods are all green , only venerable dreds and termies should be white, support vehicles should be green, the inventor of the Ares painted his green with some Bone details, and unfortunately if you go by the fluff it states that "they painted thier Termnator armor bone white to show that they were dead men walking" no mention of vehicles , and the reason the Ares was created was because Deathwing only uses Landraider based vehicles, so I don't think that a Vindi would be painted Bone, but I think people should paint thier models however they like .

  5. awesome model but every pic is from basically the same angle.

I'm trying to use yours as a reference to build mine and some top downs and close ups would really help.

  11. 13 years after this post was made Im asking if you had to modify the Baneblade flamers to fit? And did you use a promethuim tank or something behind the sponsons?
