Modeling with wood chips

All around us you can find stuff that works great in our modeling world. Our buddy Christian kept telling us to make sure to tell everyone about the great virtue of woodchips that you can find in any park or garden.

Look for some good pieces, paint them black and with a bit of drybrushing, you have a beautiful rock. Have a look at this Ork, standing proudly on top of his wood rock.

The drybrushing was easy: Chaos Black, Codex Grey, Bleached Bone..
Hope it inspires!

  2. Hell yea it inspires! I would NEVER have guessed that wood chips would look so much like rock. That is completely cool. I'll be keeping my eye out for some of this basing material so cheap that it practically grows on trees... 3d6 pun damage on that one, roll it where I can see it!

  3. Excellent, I've used mulch chips from the planter in front of my house.

I get my basing "sand" from the gutter across the street. All the fine gravel washes out of the parking lot after a good rain and collects there. It's how I based my Lustwing.
