Playing with models you LOVE

I am a typical Modeler who also plays the game as opposed to the Player who also spends time modeling. On BOLS they do a lot of gaming analysis and talk about what model is best for what purpose. I find myself in the end not really caring, the only thing I really care about is a model that I really like and want to spend time on and then later I will try to figure out how can I fit it into my army. Take Uriah Jacobson, an ancient Witchhunter model that you can still buy. Here he is on the GW website:

I loved this model first time I saw it almost two years ago and bought it on Ebay. Haven't done anything with it until now, with the new IG codex. I figure, THAT'S where I start my new army, with this great model (wonder who sculpted it, anyone know?). Thank goodness the priest option in the IG codex has a shotgun option, I have no idea if this is a good thing or not, but at least I can play with Uriah this way. He even has a chainsword on his back..it's just great.
Threw a paintcoat over him and now he is ready to do his job, this is after I finish the rest of the army....

  1. Oh My God, I've been trying to figure out where to use that fantastic model as well! The only other priest I could think of that I liked was the grizzled old one with the eye-patch and the Plasma rifle... and IG priests can't take Plasma Rifles anymore!

Thank you for reminding me of Uriah, I gotta go fish him out of my drawer and get to work :)

  2. I'm with you, if it's a model I like, I'll find some way to fit it in or build a list around it if I have to.

I could care less about the effectiveness, especially if it's cool looking.

And that is a great model you have.

  3. Cool looking models are the best models for sure. And Uriah is one great looking model. I always kind of wanted to do a witch hunter inquisitor and have his retinue be all Necromunda Redemptionist minis. I think that would be cool.

  4. I love putting a piece down on the table that took me a good chunk of time to detail and see another players eyes do that "well shit" routine, its as much an art as it is psychological warfare in my opinion. And its a bonus if the units a powerhouse.

  5. Preach on! The first thing I do with a list is add the models I love. Who cares if it's the best, that's the best part of the challenge...winning with stuff that may not be the best on the table.

  6. I buy and play with what I like. I'm not a power gamer nor do I truely care about winning so long as I have fun and part of the fun is enjoying my models.

  7. I'm pretty sure that's a Brian Nelson sculpt. Great model.
