Great OOP Miniatures Found for Pennies

As you may know, I am a bargain hunter and flea market hound.

I love buying my minis on Craigslist and have even found some great deals at the local city flea market at the old drive-in theater.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a new box of crypt ghouls, and a box of skeletons for a dollar for both.

Last weekend I was digging around and found a sandwich baggy with these old minis in it for 50 cents each.

The top row are fantasy, and 40k on bottom. The bottom right three I took a special interest in, plastic Scout? Chainsaw warrior, and 2nd pattern Terminator.

So keep your eyes peeled for Craigslist adds and hit up the local flea markets ( unless you live near me ) , you never know what you might find.

  1. Very jealous! Back when I was a lad (crikey, 18 years ago now) I had one of those Empire foot knights with the double handed sword, and I used it in a school art project, never to be seen again. :(

My local model shop has boxes of stuff in their upstairs room that I've been allowed to rummage through - most of it is rubbish, but I've managed to find some real gems, e.g. an original Noise Marine, some old Marauder beastmen with 2 hand weapons and an old Ultramarine Captain. I've paid around £1 ($1.70? I don't know what the exchange rate is at the moment) for each of them too.

It's hard work finding them though, you literally spend hours trawling through stuff and only find 3 or 4 decent miniatures...

  2. The 3rd from the right model in the bottom row is a House Goliath Juve from the Necromunda starter set I believe.

  3. Err no yeah you are right, scout, one of the ones that carried the heavy bolter with hellfire rounds or a missile launcher on the shoulder.

    Whoops!

  4. I wish our flea markets had that kind of stuff - craigslist however can usually find some deals.

John, let me know if there's something I could trade you for those two orcs with halberds. I'm going to use some old marauder orc spearmen/standard bearers to make reroll counters for my blood bowl team.

  5. Nice find, John!
The one second from left on the bottom, though likely an eldar, would make a good Callidus Assasin with some slight mods.
Am curious, when searching Craigslist, what are your search parameters?

  6. Andy- It sure is fun revisting old minis, I started buying them in the late 80s, I may have a double of the foot knight to trade if you would like to recapture your school day memories lost( fix the email addy at bottom). Nice blog by the way, great painting.

Charles- He is from the Tyranid Attack / Advanced Space Crusade box set game.

Tristan- I may have a few more too, from the same line, and they are up for trade, ( fix email addy at bottom).

Kevin- I just use the word "Warhammer" in titles and descriptions, sometimes a few times a day, and you gotta be quick to pick them up.

  7. Never thought of looking on craigslist for old models. I tend to get them from eBay or various forums. Vancouver has some deep roots, who knows what could be on craigslist.

  9. I'll have to have a dig around and see if I have anything to trade...

Now I'm tempted to hit my local model shop again...

    Cheers! :)

  10. Nice find! Love those old harlequins and scouts. I actually still have 5 of them on a sprue I believe... Are you a fan of those? My marines are long gone and they could use a home with someone who appreciates them!
