SCWH Top 10 Models of All Time: Number 5

Welcome to the working week! And.......here's number 5 in the SCWH TTOAT. And let me say ONCE MORE, John and I didn't know from each other what models we were picking and in what order. That of course leads again to some strange choices:

Mike:

Skarsnik and Gobbla
Without a doubt, a Top Ten of All Time GW models could not be complete with Skarsnik and Gobbla. This model is so superb, I don't know where to start. OK, the squig is awesome! He has stitches, a great cancerous tongue, huge fangs and brutal and mean looking tiny eyes. The lord holding him seems mellow and has hit pet under control, he looks ready to dish out an order to assault some petty humies. The hat of the guy is so over the top, it's laugout funny and having a little grot using a mushroom as a weapon is just the freedom GW should give to all their sculptors. On top of that, this is one of the few models with a completely sculpted base including huge slabs of slate. A wonderful job! Go paint on up!

Sculptor: Mike Anderson

John;

Goblin Warboss on Giant Squig

Now this is getting weird, did we really both pick a squig based model for our choices? What are the odds?
Great sense of motion, helmet falling off, silly and cool at the same time.
Just like a gobbo to hop on a squig and charge into battle.
Lots of great detail, but the motion that is portrayed is what really drew me into this model.
This is another model that was simple and fun to paint with enough detail to keep me interested.

Sculptor: Juan Diaz

Tomorrow, #4!

Comments

  1. I prefer the original Skarsnik and Gobbla; the new one has lost the mad humour -- the grot with the mushroom aside -- that the older models had, and which is apparent in the warboss John chose.

    The night goblins from the fourth edition era were full of mad-as-a-bag-of-snakes personality, and that's missing from this bulky and mean-looking model.

  2. Liking all the choices so far. Its good to see a blog just take it easy for a while and reflect on the models themselves. Juan Diaz is my favorite sculptor and its good to see him getting some love

  3. I'm kind of playing along at home. I made a list but didn't put them in order. Skarsnik & Gobbla is on my list as well. He is the first one that is on my list you guys have mentioned, although I had yet a different Chaos Sorceror (the Games Day one with the tale poking out from his robe).
