I have often wondered about all the bright cheerful colors that I have seen Nids painted and I decided to go with something a bit more "realistic".
Drawing inspiration from beetles, cockroaches, crickets, spiders and ants. Most bugs I see are blackish or brownish and shiny. I imagine the dark colors help them blend into the darkness while they are creeping and crawling about. I also like alien from the movie Alien and it is black and slippery.
I like a dark looking army, I just wonder if this is a bit too dark.
What do you guys think?
John
Adequately buggy, I like it.
ReplyDelete*Shudders*
I hate roaches.
Actually... I juat hate bugs. lol.
I like the colors very insect like!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I don't think it is two dark at all. the tongue really make it pop as it is so much brighter than the reast of the model. I think if you did a whole army of bugs though and carried this scheme throughout then it would be a god idea to maybe change the skin colour slightly (like a lighter/darker brown)depending on which unit you were doing. (so it's like each species of nid was a different specie of bug because it was slightly different. I think his wold help brake the units up a bit because with dark colours you can have the army just looking like 1 colour and thats boring because it's monotone.
ReplyDeleteashen is my word verification hehe
I believe that if you paint the carapace a brighter colour like maybe orange? It will be more eye catching while maintaining the dark scheme of your army.
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking to repainting my whole Tyranid army and I will be experimenting with it...
Looks great! I suggest using a brighter color on the top of the base (like a drybrush of Fortress Grey over the surface) to help illuminate the model from beneath and prevent him from blending into his base too much.
ReplyDeletei thougth that model looked great i dont play tyranid but orks, and well +as has been stated above if you are gonna paint an entire army this way then it migth be a good thing to brigthen up some uni9ts just so it is more easy to seperate them from eachother.
ReplyDeleteand also i would just like to leave you with one word regarding your broodlord...
AWESOME!
awesome you guys should buy space hulk
ReplyDeleteit's awesome me and my bud made an older version using mapmaking tools.
scdarkangel i have sent you an email
ReplyDeleteReally nice color scheme. If you are looking to lighten some of the squads, check out pics of the Madagascar roach and the Goliath beetle. They both have some neat tone variations going on. Again, great paint job!
ReplyDeletebuy space hulk and use this color scheme and it would
ReplyDeletebe awesome.
Excellent colour scheme. Personally I don't think it's too dark, and it would look stunning (maybe even indimidating!) carried over a large swarm of 'nids. If you were concerned with the overall "darkness" of the scheme, though, I'd suggest adding some small but bright accents to the dark carapace.

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the input, I should have included that the base was not yet painted, I was waiting to see if I would add more color.
ReplyDeleteI plan on mixing the pallet up a bit with other models, but using the same neutral earthy tones.

Santa Cruz Warhammer
I like the buggy colors. The only thing that pops to mind is that the base should probably be used to give it some contrast.
ReplyDeleteGo with something like tan/light brown, and that'll make the bug pop.
