I painted up a test model for the Hordes of Vormond Ghoul troop. I had some problems coming up with the paintscheme...GW tends to paint them in lighter, pastel like colors, but the codex mentions right of the bat that ghouls have 'dark' skin. So I decided to paint them black. I had this idea of black skin with orange shining eyes. I didn't know what it would look like so I googled to see if anyone else did it and I could find one person: right here. (scroll down a bit).
I wanted mine to be a bit darker and not have the light nails, I think they are a bit distracting from the face.
Anyway, here he is:

Mine are slimy green, but then I use them in 40K,

Nice work. The darkness really brings out the sort of feral yellow eyes.
ReplyDeleteI think that making the face a bit lighter, just on a few highlights near the eyes, would do a lot to bring attention where it belongs.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I don't like is the use of GW or GF9 static grass -- but only because both have that random red in it that just seems jarring to me.
Overall I really like this test model though and I think it's much better than the usual pastels.
I like your choice of colour scheme although I agree with misterjustin about the static grass.
ReplyDeleteI myself also don't like the red flakes in the grass...are there other options?

SCWH
LOTS of other options for static grass.
ReplyDeleteGF9 has several colour choices - and I sell a grass collection that includes 3 colors of static grass and 3 other turf choices, none of which have red in them :)
You can also look at the complete Woodland Scenics line for a vast array of options.
Mike-
ReplyDeleteI have a 10 gallon busket of static grass and its a way better mossy green.
Happy to give you a tub.
