Fall and winter 2025: more Oldhammer box dioramas and single minis!

The second half of 2025 has continued to be pretty productive for me and I finally made some real progress on my most precious long term project....let's gooo!

"True Hero of the Imperium'

I wanted to make a little Guard box diorama with Trooper Brock, Citadel Imperial Army, 1988, sculpted by Aly Morrison. The look was always going to be a WWI-ish scene with grime, dust and fiery skies. In retrospect I failed to add something to the top half of the box, and so whole thing weighs down a bit to the bottom. But I learned from it, and it was still fun to work on. In the mockup I used a different mini at first but went to Brock in the end.

"Last Prayer Before Battle"

I wanted to create a nondescript box that is hiding a little fantasy world. I bought a simple art box, unpainted, and took it apart. After that I started creating a scene with old Grenadier and Heritage minis from 1980. Is was extremely satisfying to work on this project and it took a bit to figure out how to position the minis so they didn't touch each other when the lid closes.  After it was all done, I stained the box.  I will post a separate post about this project but for now here are a few pics

Heroquest Fimir

I received a plastic 1989 Heroquest Fimir once from a friend and had it languish in a box for years. When I stumbled upon it I had a vision of a stark, modern looking frame with just the mini and a prop. The Warhammer Quest gate (1995) was perfect for the job. I reversed the top of the gate so I could get both skulls up top and faces on the columns, which I liked a lot better. The background was a piece of styrene, painted in a complementary color.

"You thought you were alone"

Using a 2x3 inch frame I wanted to create an autumnal forest scene, at first with two minis, then just one and lastly two again, but different! I kept changing my mind, but in the end Richard Orclord Hale gave me some good advice. The main figure ended up being a 1983 C14 preslotta Night Goblin. The end concept is simple: a little guy walks in a big, dark forest and predators are waiting to pounce. The monster on the left is Four Fang, an 1982 Asgard sculpt by Jes Goodwin. I obviously chopped off his head.

Finally....more C38/C27 Chaos Beastmen!

They are so hard to find!! But patience was rewarded this year and I was able to add no less than SIX minis to the collection, all sculpted by the great Trish Carden in 1984-85.

Eagleman, C38

Skull Smasher, C27

Ostrich Man, C38

Carrion Man, C27

Cloven Hoof, C27

Rhino Man, C27

Here's the gallery with the ongoing project of my Chaos Beastmen!

That's it for now, hope this inspires a bit...
