KIT BASHED LAND RAIDER ARES

AFTER SEEING THIS ON THE GW WEBSITE I HAD TO MAKE ONE.

The Land Raider Ares was created by the Dark Angels Chapter for use by the Deathwing. It features hull-mounted, twin-linked assault cannons, one prow-mounted Demolisher cannon and sponson twin-linked heavy flamers.

USED A LAND RAIDER KIT, THE NEW VINDICATOR SPRUE , FLAMERS FROM THE BANEBLADE AND BITS ORDERED THE METAL ASSAULT CANNONS FROM THE LAND RAIDER CRUSADER.

AND PAINTED

And some fancy outside pics.

Update: This has been one of my more popular posts, so I decided to revisit it, and add some comments for those that are looking to build one of these.

Buy a new Crusader kit , it comes with the Assault cannons, the flamers from the Baneblade should be easy to find as bits, they are not often used.

Buy a Vindicator, you get the gun and dozer blade and the front mantlet parts, and you will still have a rhino and extra armor left over after stealing all the parts for this conversion. I actually bought the 3 pack of chaos Vindis, it comes with all the Chaos bits and the command vehicle sprue as well and its the same price.

I decided not to widen the dozer blade, it seemed like more work that it was worth.

Make sure you mount your flamer sposons on the forward hatches as I did , you will get a bit more range from them.

Now go out and build one, and purge the Heretic.

Simple Conversions go a long way: Ork

Here's an big 'un in mega armor. Since he looked to really control his surroundings, I wanted to model that look by having him stand on a defeated enemy; in this case the ripped off part of a Tyranid.

I modelled some muscles on the back of the Tyranid arm, just to make it look real.

I am not into blood on models and I tried to do it realisticly but modestly.

I also used a bit of steel wool to shine up this guy, instead of drybrushing with silver, I brushed all his edges. His mouth guard I scratched up good to make it look really worn. Pretty simple stuff, but real effective when it's done

Making a Forest

I decided to make a forest.

First I went to the dollar store and bought some fake plant stuff , different kinds , bigger and smaller all cheap , even used some Christmas stuff .

Then cut out a larger random oval shaped blob in 5mm foam core , feathered the edges and
coated the top with pva glue , then flocking , poked holes and glued in trees and shrubs .

I wanted to be able to have troops inside the woods , so I set the woods on a sheet of 5mm foam core and made a bigger oval around it , same procedure as before , but this time only around the outside leaving the inside with just flocking , so that I could drop the first piece inside it.

now when troops move into the woods , you just take out the center piece and place the minis inside .
