A lot of stuff going on...and how to juggle it

The last 4-5 months have been really rewarding for me and the blog. John and I finally came up with a solid structure for the Santa Cruz Warhammer Game night, which is happening now every month in a killer location and on invitation only. We have a wonderful group of about 25 people on the email list and ever time we draw about 10-15 players. It's wonderful, I have made friends and there is never any stress when we all are together. 

John jump started a fantasy campaign that really took off and made everyone scramble to get models painted up, 200 points at a time. In the beginning I could keep up but the last couple of time I got bummed out about getting all those models painted (nicely), I am a really slow painter. It started to stress me out and last time I just decided to paint and not play. It felt good. Of course after that, I got really inspired finished up this squad over a week.

Here's the banner. My 7 year old prepared the 4 quarters and painted them nicely, I put in the designs.

And the bases are magnetized

I used the slightly smaller magnets so the tin sheet and the magnet are NOT touching each other. The pull is great without touching each other, so when you remove a model during a game, you don't pull the whole tray off the table. Works out good.

 

Skellies are a lot of work but when the unit is done, it feels good.

The Heroes of Armageddon is a daily stream of pleasure, pride and stress. There is no way around it, this project is ambitious and huge and it was inevitable that problems arise. I have certainly lost sleep over it, still, despite everything, John and I chat over the phone every day and he is mellow and gracious and he got me out of my rut and made me feel proud to be part of this awesome project, connect with the hugely talented building teams and to be part of this amazing and generous gaming community. 

And then there suddenly is the Tau. Out of nowhere I got obsessed, traded stuff with a friend and I am on the road to starting a new project. After the Heroes of Armageddon are done, I will build a 1500 point Tau army. The boss here came without the back torso and jumppack, so i built one out of one of the Devilfish weapon systems:

Heroes of Armageddon + From The Warp = Weekly Drawing

Death Company Storm Raven, Part 5: the finished model!

I finally was able to finish the Death Company Storm Raven for the Heroes of Armageddon Project. Here are the images:

Here's the full shot with the front door open. I painted the entire interior but nothing of it will show, except the front part. it's a matter of principle for me, but still a bit disappointing that this model lets very little light in when the hatches are open.

 The wings are magnetized, so this model transports easily

 The engine goes from silver to brown to black, which looks nice.

Heroes of Armageddon - Weekly Drawing, Victoria Miniatures

This weeks Heroes of Armageddon Weekly Drawing prizes come from Victoria Lamb of Victoria Miniatures.

As mentioned before, Victoria was kind enough to donate the head and pack bits for the Savlar Chem Dog squad I am doing for the Steel Legion Raffle Prize army led by Dave Taylor.

I am also using her kilted legs for my personal Ardwick 23rd Imperial Guard Veterans.

Victoria has been kind enough to send a few of her products to us to raffle off for this weeks Heroes of Armageddon drawing.

Victoria Lamb is a multiple Golden Demon winner and the awesome builder / painter behind a number of my favorite models and mini dioramas. Her OSL effects were way ahead of the times and awe inspiring.

Death Company Storm Raven, Part 4: starting on the details

I think I need one more post after this one to finish up the Death Company Storm Raven for the Heroes of Armageddon. Here is the progress report:

here is the plane with the red crosses done up. You can see I also added one on the bottom of the front cockpit.

 here's a top view after lining certain part of the panels with white. Click on this for a better view. I have been struggling since the beginning with the hightlighting of the black. The light grey streaking worked well, but I wanted to make it a little more artsy, adding small white lines in some spots. After this picture I washed the lines with black to mute them a bit. I think it looks allright and a bit different.

On the crosses: I washed and hightlighted parts of them, to give them some depth.

Here's the finished base with the ruined oil pipes. you can see I painted up oil leaks/stains to make it more realistic. I am pretty happy with the base, it looks appropriate and different from the plane flying over it.

Oh yeah, and a couple days ago I picked up this Tau Army which was sitting in the garage of Tony, one of the regulars at the Santa Cruz Warhammer Game Night. he and i came to a good deal and I am now the proud owner of this force, which is exciting.

Final post will come up next Sunday. And....you can win this plane, if you contribute to the Heroes of Armageddon...this model will become part of the Blood Angels force, put together by Jawaballs.
